Freelancing online today is harder than it use to be. The field is saturated with freelancers whose only goal is to rape and pillage their customers for every dollar they can squeeze while providing low quality services and virtually no support on their work. It’s hard for webmasters and customers to distinguish a good freelancer from a freelancer who just wants to take them on their money.

I have been freelancing for years but just recently started making it a full time stay at home job, and let me tell you what: I love it. Create a portfolio website

·         This is great for showing your customers work that you have done. Some freelancers think that they have to build a portfolio site that is way better than anything else they have worked on. This is not the case! Be simple, be relevant, and be suttle.

·         Have a home page that displays some information about you, and what you do and offer. It might be a good idea to include a blog and talk about some work that you are doing or have done.

·         Have a portfolio page that shows off some of the work you’ve done. I try to include everything that I have done in my portfolio, but sometimes when you are very busy working on multiple projects its hard to update your portfolio with every single project. Make sure to include a testimonial from that customer, if you don’t have one from them: Ask for one.

·         Have a resume page setup just like a Word resume. Explain your skills, education, references, prior experience, etc. This helps show qualification and professionalism. Allowing the prospect to see that your are serious enough to get things accomplished.

·         Have a support portal for your current clients. I use my support portal for clients to let me know about bugs in something I have developed for them so that I might be able to fix the issue for them. Showing that I provide quality service and I care about the quality of my development. This also helps me bring in repeat business, as most of my customers also submit new projects to me via my ticketing system.

·         Have a contact form for prospective customers to send a service inquiry to you to have some work done. This is important because not all of the customers you receive will be from referrals and the like, but once you get known and start to create a buzz around your services you will get direct clients out of thin air.

·         And remember: Don’t put advertisements on your portfolio site. Sure if you get large enough you may start to get some good traffic, especially if you are blogging. But your prospects don’t want to see you trying to make revenue off them visiting your website. Save the advertisements for other personal project websites if you have any.

Have a good project management system

·         This is very important when managing multiple projects at one time. If you are as busy with stuff as I am then you should know that this is very important. Managing projects in the freelance business can make or break you. If you don’t manage your time and projects correctly you can easily become overwhelmed very fast and get burnt out on the work you are doing because you are always busy taking care of something.

·         Things always go a lot smoother when you have everything organized in an easy to manage project system. I have found that MyIntervals works very well for time and project management. Using this system allow me to manage my projects and where I am at with each of them. It also allows me to generate time reports and send them to my clients as I am working on their projects. This helps my client understand where I am at and the timeline base for completion of their project.

Take care of your clients

·         And they will take good care of you. I can’t stress this enough! Keeping my clients happy overall is my key goal when working with them. My clients bring me more business than anything else. If I create a website for a client and he loves it, he is most likely going to recommend me to anyone else he encounters than needs something done. In one of my previous posts I wrote about how Referral business is the best type of business. I wasn’t lying when I said that.

·         Every now and then there will be a client who just expects you to over achieve, or do more than what the project outline says and will get upset when you request more money for more features or services. It’s extremely hard to make these clients happy when they expect the world from you. Don’t give in to their wants because they want you to do more than you’re suppose to. Just tell them how it is. Some people will get upset, and some of them will agree and pay more for the extra functionality. Thus far I have run into 1 client that expected more from me than I could deliver within his budget, after a little bit of bickering I told this client to find someone else who can complete it within his budget. Time is valuable, and if the client expects quality results, they should be willing to pay for that quality in my opinion.

Don’t over extend or overwhelm yourself

·   Being one person freelancing and managing multiple projects at one time can be very time consuming. If you feel that you have enough projects lying around, don’t agree to take on more than you can chew. Let the potential client know that you would love to help them with their project, and as you try and give every client the best quality of service, it would be hard for you to start their project right away. If they still feel you are the best candidate to complete their work, they will wait for you to finish your current projects and then start theirs.

·   Sometimes the client just can’t wait. And if it’s an easy project and would only take a day or two, go ahead and do it, but charge an emergency fee. If they want it done quickly and want you to do it, they won’t mind paying this emergency fee. If the project isn’t easy, and they can’t wait, then don’t take on the project. Refer them to another freelancer you know that could take care of their needs. You don’t want to be stressed trying to handle 20-30 projects at one time, so just let them know you can’t do it.

Hi dear, I’m skipping the complex stuff like how to pick the right market and getting traffic in the first place, but I wanted to show a few different monetization methods that can be used for almost any type of site. It’s also important to show the end result of all the research and promotion and that there is a path to cash down the line, after all the goal as my site implies is to create an income online that’s both legitimate and passive. So before I list the different “schemes” I have to point out that how much you can earn will greatly depend on the topic of your website and the amount of traffic you’re getting. Often people will understand amount of traffic concept but completely forget the topic part and wonder why their 1000 visitors aren’t generating any profits.

Google adsense

Probably the biggest advertising platform online and the one most people have heard of. Adsense is mostly suited to sites with big traffic and also a wide range of topics as it seems to adapt really well to different visitors and content. Essentially Google tries to show the most relevant advertisement to that visitor so in theory they are more likely to click on it if it’s what they are looking for.

Advantages: No problems with getting paid (its Google after all) and easy setup, it’s just one piece of code. As mentioned it can be really good for large sites with lots of different types of content.

Disadvantages: Google take a pretty big percentage cut of your earnings, around 40%. Prices per click can vary wildly, everywhere between 5p and £5 that I have seen, so it can be hard to judge how much you’re going to make.

Company affiliate programs

Essentially these are just affiliate programs setup by online retailers and businesses to provide you with a commission on whatever sales you generate. For example if you had a weightlifting site you might sign up to a fitness stores affiliate program and integrate their banners and links onto your site. Nearly all will be on a pay per sale basis, i.e. you won’t get paid per clicks but it will always be free to sign up and try them out. You can either find them in a network link commission junction, tradedoubler or just go to their site and see if they have a program.

Advantages: Commissions can be pretty high depending on the store and if you do generate good sales most likely they will give you a bump in your commission. If you can find a company that provides exactly the product/service your visitors are looking for then conversion rates and sales can be really high.

Disadvantages: Payments can on occasion be a problem since you may be dealing with a small company. The most important thing is to build up a relationship with them over time so you know what to expect from them and vice versa. Also it can be pretty time consuming finding the ideal company to work with, a lot depends on their site and how well it converts customers into sales, if there’s a flaw here then it won’t matter what traffic you send them.

Sell advertising on your site

This method of making money from your blog can take many forms but mostly it’s about advertisers coming to you because you have a popular site and they know you have the traffic, I’ve never seen it work when you go out hunting for advertisers. It can range from selling banners on your site to ordinary links but the main principle is that they pay for the advert on a fix cost basis, i.e. you don’t get less or more money depending on how much business you deliver for them.

Advantages: You’re not required to deliver a certain amount of clicks or sales to the advertisers so it’s pretty worry free. Also as mentioned in most cases the advertisers are going to come to you (if you have a big site) so there’s not much work in that respect either, it’s as close to easy money as it gets with internet marketing.

Disadvantages: Who wants to wait around for people to make offers on your site? I’d rather be out there making my own deals. Prices for adverts vary greatly and you’re going to have to negotiate for the best deal. Also bear in mind Google has a policy against selling links for seo purposes on your site so you have to take that into consideration.

Sell your site

This is the only one I haven’t done I have to admit because I see it as a bit of a catch 22. IE if a sites making money every month why would you want to sell it? Similarly if your site doesn’t earn money why would anyone want to buy it? I do know people who have sold their sites for good money though, and often it’s to a company who can monetise the traffic much better, i.e. they can now sell their products directly on the site instead of just banner ads/links. You will need to use some kind of broker to negotiate the transfer of both the money and the domain name and they are going to take a cut. Sites like Flippa will allow you to list your site for sale and they also help negotiate the transfer (I think)

Advantages: Can be big money if you get the right company who really wants the site. Leaves you free to work on new sites after you sell.

Disadvantages: Working out a price can be difficult, some people use 15 – 18 months of revenue as a marker for final value but there’s no definite rule. You lose your monthly pay check. Broker is going to take a cut. Also by listing your site on places like flippa or eBay you’re going to get a lot of fake bidders, much easier if the seller comes to you first and you work from there.

So those are the main ways to make money from your site that I know of. Again as I said at the start so much depends on the site you have and the market you’re in. However I have to say that if you have a site that ranks and gets targeted traffic then you’re going to earn money with it some way or another, i.e. even if you do nothing people are going to mail you offering deals. I suppose this is why I spend most of my time building up my sites in the first place and worrying about the money aspect of it later.

Earning Money With CPA Marketing

CPA (Cost Per Action) affiliate programs encompass both pay per sale and pay per lead affiliate programs. Pay per sale affiliate programs pay you either a fixed amount per sale or a percentage of every sale generated from your links. Pay per lead affiliate programs generally pay for lead information (name, e-mail, phone, etc.) generated from your affiliate links. I will say that there is a really good earning potential marketing CPA offers. Basically, what it involves is marketing CPA offers as an affiliate.

CPA offers are a bit different as you get paid per action that the advertiser is paying for. You could get paid per trial sign up, email or zip submits, download, cell phone subscription, quote request, and more. On average, you can make anywhere from $1-$40+ per action.

Marketing CPA offers can be done for free as well. Although you will need some affiliate marketing knowledge, this can be a simple way to earn good money online.

Using CPA offers like these is a great way to supplement your Google Adsense earnings.

How can I added 5,000 Facebook Friends?

I recently added 5,000 friends on my Facebook account and I wanted to share with you exactly how I did that!

 Once you do hit the 5,000 mark, though, other challenges arise.. like what to do with all the friend requests you now have that you can’t accept.

To get added 5,000 friends on your Facebook account, it does take some initial work, though.. considering it is a Social Media Platform, you will need to be consistent in building those relationships on Facbook. Once you have begun to really build relationships and interact with others, you will begin to receive more and more friend requests a day!

Steps you can take to build your Facebook List:

1) Make sure you have an attractive picture. Not just, you look great.. but a picture where you are smiling, professional and welcoming. Do not put up a picture of someone else or something else, as this is all about YOU.

2) Be sure to have your Information page well updated. Include books you read, movies, music, other interests. Include any education or professional experience as well.

3) Fill out the About Me section! This is crucial. Write something personal. See mine as an example. It is personal, talks to “one person”, shares my experiences, and also gives a couple of links out to my own sites.

4) Be sure you only have one or two links. Some people will list out every program or affiliate plan they are in and it is just too overwhelming. This is why a blog is an amazing tool, as you can direct people to one site and you can have all your income streams there, in one place.

5) Interact! When you interact with people on their comments, even just by liking those comments, people really do click on your name to see what you are about. This is a great way to get friend requests coming to you!

6) There is a limit on how many people you can request a day, so be respectful of the Facebook policies. I have found that no more than 20 a day is usually safe, but really, be professional. Seek people in like minded groups and request their friendship. Write them a note, mention how you noticed that you have some things in common and you would like to connect. This will cut down on the number of people ignoring your friend request.
